Apple announced its new, lower cost Apple iPod touch 16GB MP3 Player, which lacks the rear-facing iSight camera previously featured on iPod touch models. Available in Black or Silver, it costs $229 with free shipping. This new model remains at 6.1mm thin, but is slightly lighter at 86 grams (it previously weighed 88 grams). It includes the same 4" 1136x640 326ppi Retina display, A5 dual-core processor, and 1.2-megapixel Facetime camera as the previous model. The following features also remain the same as the previous generation: Lightning dock connector, iPod touch loop (think camera strap), up to 40 hours of music playback, and up to 8 hours of video playback. It is available online now and in-store starting May 31.
