This is a surprise. Starting October 17 through December 16, 2011, Walmart will be offering a limited layaway program to shoppers.

The program was discontinued in 2006 because Walmart decided customers were no longer interested in layaway and were using shopping cards and credit cards as payment options. But with the current numbers of one out of seven shoppers nearly at the maximum of their credit limit, offering an alternative payment option going into the holiday season makes sense.
