Urban Outfitters: 5 Inexpensive Graduation Gifts They'll Actually USE
Filed under Graduation
Shh! Listen! Hear that? The noble strains of "Pomp and Circumstance" echoing from nearly every college campus across the great U.S.A.? Yep, it's graduation season, and that means thousands of eager young men and women will be moving into their first apartments, starting (or looking for) their first real jobs, and adjusting to life without the safety net of their families. We've been there: It's confusing. It's expensive. It's stressful. But, it's fun.
Given that most graduates have probably already received five copies of Dr. Seuss's, Oh, the Places You'll Go! and three different engraved picture frames, we'd like to suggest a different graduation gift provider: Urban Outfitters . Sure, a lot of the stuff they sell is hipster schlock, but there's some truly great, useful stuff in there. Below, you'll find our top five cheap graduation gifts they'll appreciate, and, more importantly, actually use.
1. World's Best Entry Level Employee Mug ($12) - The job market today isn't what it was, and new graduates probably won't get the high-paying positions right out of the gate. They'll love drinking their morning pre-commute java out of this mug.... But caution them that most bosses probably wouldn't find it humorous, so leave it at home.
2. Circus Waffle Maker ($30) - Who doesn't love a good waffle for breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Mixing up a batch of Bisquick or from-scratch batter is far cheaper than buying premade frozen waffles, and they can top their cute waffles with loads of healthy, cheap ingredients like defrosted frozen fruit for a filling, nutritious meal.
3. Coz-E Electric Blanket ($68) - If we recall our first (cheap hole-in-the-wall) apartment correctly, the heat wasn't always up to par in the wintertime. This glorified electric Snuggie solves the freezing-toes problem quite well.
4. Portable Sewing Machine ($24) - Mom won't be there to fix a button or stitch back up an unraveled hem anymore, so this easy-to-use little machine will be their own personal tailor.
5. Ruffle Laundry Bag ($39, in 2 colors) - In the same vein as #3, most inexpensive starter apartments don't feature their own washer & dryer, and carting your unmentionables to the laundromat in a mesh bag or plastic basket is a little embarrassing. This attractive laundry bag hides dirty laundry nicely, and can even be washed right with their clothes.
