Hey guys - since I've already bought as much as i need/can afford, I'm posting this here for others. The eBay user Terrares occasionally sells pre-loaded sim card kits that have been activated and loaded with $95 account balance. You buy these, they send you the account details via eBay message and the actual sim card in the mail. once you get the account info you either call in or use online chat to give them all the account info, then say you'd like to cancel the account and transfer the balance to a different account (yours). I've done this a few times now and it only takes about 10 minutes and always works without any issues - except you can only do balance transfer per day. Also, the way the accounts are set up is with a $95 balance on the $3/month pay as you go plan - so if you wait too long your balance will be $3 less than the $95 for each month beyond their activation date.

FWIW, the last time i bought these (november) they were selling for $35 - $49.99 isn't quite as hot of a deal, but it's still better than retail or (god forbid) topping up through the T-Mo my account app and paying 8% tax (no idea which state that is, but it isn't MI state tax)
