I bought a couple to replace a set that had started throwing ECC errors. They accepted my offer of $15 SHIPPED.

This WILL work in the 2008 model as well as the 2006, but at 667mhz like the 2006. 10% real world difference roughly.

Before you TD, you can get a couple of 3.2ghz 8 core CPUs on eBay for the 2008 that puts you at about 90% of the Geekbench of the low end 'cylinder' Mac Pro desktop...which is $2600+tax refurb'd from Apple.

Also, this is server level stuff...ECC with a huge heatsink, bigger than you find on other 667 RAM like for HP servers etc.

The Mac Pro Desktop IMHO is as near as you can get to 'PC' with a Mac. Lots of PC stuff works in it, even stock PC video cards now with OS X 10.10 if you don't mind having no screen on boot, but you have a cheap secondary card if you need that, right? It's a near server level machine, and really is, short of a redundant power supply.
