Have child (age limit not defined) wear costume (what determines a costume is not defined either) and ring doorbells or knock on front door of houses and say, "Trick or Treat!" when someone answers. Some may provide free candy or other items. Some may even leave an entire bowl of candy near there front door without needing to ring or knock. It is a good idea for them to bring along a bag for collection of candy.
